Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Licensed Professional Practitioner?

“The practitioner knows that the spiritual man needs no healing but that this has not yet become revealed to the mind.  What the healer does is to mentally uncover and reveal the Truth of Being, which is that God is in and through every man, and that this Indwelling Presence is already Perfect.” ~Ernest Holmes

“A practitioner is not merely a body of knowledge, but rather a state of consciousness that realizes oneness with the infinite.  Dedicated to first demonstrating the Science of Mind and Spirit principles within their own life, a practitioner then serves as a spiritually therapeutic agent of the Spirit for the upliftment of every man, woman, and child who requests healing of body, mind and spirit”.  ~ Michael Bernard Beckwith

A Practitioner is one who recognizes the deep and abiding harmony at the center of everything.  A Licensed Professional Practitioner is a spiritual counselor trained to help clients:

  • understand the spiritual and mental aspects behind conditions in their lives, and
  • establish new beliefs grounded in spiritual principles

The role of a Practitioner is to help individuals make changes in their lives by making changes in their consciousness. A Practitioner’s work is anchored in a conscious knowing that the spiritual truths which are always operating in the Universe are greater than any condition or situation, and that in the revelation of these truths in the lives of our clients, healing takes place.

What is spiritual counseling?

“Spiritual Man is Perfect, but his individual use of Life and Law enables him to cover a perfect idea with an apparently imperfect cloak” ~Ernest Holmes

Spiritual counseling is similar to traditional counseling or therapy and is anchored in the spiritual principle that clients are already whole, perfect and complete within themselves. Therefore, there is nothing that requires “fixing.”

Through the counseling process, the Practitioner, or spiritual counselor, works to reveal that wholeness and perfection in the life of the client by uncovering hidden beliefs that are resulting in unwanted conditions, and assists the client in replacing them with spiritual truths. As the client expands in consciousness and replaces limiting thoughts and beliefs with more expansive ones grounded in spiritual principles, their lives begin to transform for the better.

The Practitioner holds the confidence of clients sacred and inviolate. What is shared in a session is never discussed with anyone, except where the Practitioner is legally bound to report specific events.

When do I work with a spiritual counselor?

“A person experiences life as something separated from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. Our task must be to free ourselves from this self-imposed prison, and through compassion, to find the reality of Oneness.” ~Albert Einstein

People work with spiritual counselors for a variety of reasons. Some work with a spiritual counselor on a regular, ongoing basis to develop and cultivate their spiritual awareness. Others meet with a spiritual counselor when faced with a specific challenge. The common thread running throughout is a desire to achieve spiritual understanding of the causes of conditions in one’s life, and create conscious alignment between one’s inner thoughts and beliefs and what they wish to experience in their lives.

All of us, at times, get caught up in human experiences such as dis-ease of the body, disharmony in our relationships, or discontent with our careers or other aspects of our lives. A spiritual counselor can help you move through these human conditions from a place of greater awareness and understanding, to a more conscious recognition of the wholeness and perfection that is always operating.

What will I experience during a spiritual counseling session?

Each session includes:

  • A centering prayer to anchor each participant and our time together in spiritual truth;
  • An opportunity for you to declare you intention for the session (i.e., what you would most like to receive from the session);
  • Time for you to share the challenge you may be experiencing;
  • A discussion of any limiting beliefs we uncover, as well as the spiritual principles that can help you move beyond those beliefs;
  • Spiritual Mind Treatment, or Affirmative Prayer, that declares the truth about you and the experience you are moving through.

Sessions are conducted either in-person or over the phone, and last approximately one hour.

What are spiritual truths?

The spiritual truth of anything is the God-essence of it. Spiritual truths are grounded in the belief and knowing that the perfection of man always exists in Spirit, and that it can be revealed via a consciousness of this Truth.

My spiritual counseling practice is grounded in the spiritual truth that everyone is whole, perfect and complete right where they are. Therefore, there is nothing to be healed, only Truth to be revealed.

What is Science of Mind?

“The Science of Mind is the study of Life and the nature of the laws of thought; the conception that we live in a spiritual Universe; that God is in, through, around and for us.” ~Ernest Holmes

Science of Mind (also referred to as Religious Science) is a philosophy that teaches the unity, divinity, sacredness and eternality of all life, and emphasizes the creative power of thought. Intentions and ideas flow through a field of consciousness, which actually affects and creates the world around us.

The philosophy was founded by Ernest Holmes in the early 20th century, and is based on ancient wisdom teachings as well as the philosophies of individuals like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Thomas Troward and Emma Curtis Hopkins.

What is Spiritual Mind Treatment?

“Spiritual Mind Treatment activates the Truth about who we are as individualized expressions of the Spirit.  Through practice of this scientific form of prayer, we enter an energetic vibration that anchors our awareness in our essential perfection and oneness with the I Am Presence of the Self.” ~ Michael Bernard Beckwith

Spiritual Mind Treatment, or ‘treatment,’ is a form of affirmative prayer designed to harness the creative power of the Universe to create good in our lives. Rather than beseeching a God outside of ourselves to give us what we wish to experience, Spiritual Mind Treatment is anchored in the awareness of the God presence within, and focuses on our personal power to accept the good in our lives, knowing that what we desire already exists in Spirit.
